Experimentation with food is the latest trend right now. Even though we are yet to see a lot of gastronomical experiments in the years to come, everyone out there seems to be dishing out something or the other in the name of ‘innovation’. But not all of them are good, or worth your money. Recently, we tried out the new range of dessert pizzas at Momo Cafe, Courtyard by Marriott, Gurgaon. Read on to know if we got hooked, or otherwise!
Momo Cafe welcomes you for a relaxing meal amidst lots of natural lighting and finest decor.
Chef Amit Dash, the brain behind all these pizzas, can be seen creating each of these masterpieces himself 🙂 He uses an array of fresh purees etc. for the pizza sauce, topped with the choicest of toppings and cheese to create these pizzas.
Coming down to the pizzas now! I was initally quite skeptical about the concept of dessert pizzas, since I do not have much of a sweet tooth to begin with. But curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn’t resist giving these a try. And I’m glad I did. Each of the pizzas has a very thoughtful combination of flavors between the sauce and the toppings, and the sweetness well balanced with the use of cheese which added a little bit of saltiness to the pizzas, apart from the fact that the cheese made these go closer to the theme of a pizza- a base, a sauce, toppings and cheese.
From the very refreshing Mango-basil pizza with a mango puree, basil and chunks of mango sitting on top, to the classic combination of Nutella and banana topped with a hint of cinnamon, the pizzas surely tasted very good. The use of thin crust, light weight breads added to the lightness of the pizzas.
For those with more of an Indian palate, the Nizami Nazakat pizza with boondi, rabri and gulab jamuns is going to be a sure-shot way to satiety after a meal. Coconut cardamon pizza topped with an array of dry fruits is another good one to try. For those who crave for sweets too much, the Angoori Rasmalai pizza is the one. I personally found it to be a little too sweet with the rasmalai and rabri in one dish/ pizza, but if you have a super-sweet tooth, give this one a try!
My personal favorites from the whole lot were the Blueberry and white chocolate ganache pizza, and the Apple-marshamallow pizza. With some melt-in-the-mouth textures, these were both just stunning! Not too sweet too! *runs to microwave some marshmallows*
Take your love for fruits and chocolate up a few notches with the Wild berry-litchi-white chocolate ganache pizza. What’s not to love here!
If you’d still love to see some chillies on your pizzas, give the Caramelized pineapple-pepper pizza a try. With sweet bell peppers and pineapple over a chocolate spread, this will surely give you the satisfaction of having some chili on your pizza, without the heat. It’s a sweet pizza, afterall!
But, if you really REALLY want some chili flavor, the Meltdown Sweet Chili pizza is the one for you! Sweet pizza with white chocolate spread, topped with sweet chilis adding a wee bit of heat to the palate. You truly get the best of both worlds with this one!
I personally loved devouring on these dessert pizzas, and surprised myself too with the discovery. The pizzas are not too heavy on the palate, so you can easily have atleast half a pizza all by yourself even after a meal. There’s a good mix of Indian and international flavors in there, and fresh and candied fruits. Some classic combos of mango+ basil, banana+ nutella are not to be missed for anything.
The dessert pizzas are available at Momo Cafe, Courtyard by Marriott, Gurgaon till the 31st of July 2015. An 8-inch pizza will cost you approx. Rs. 400++
