Summers are the best time to enjoy some delicious icy mocktails when you are hosting a party at home or just hosting kids at home during their summer holidays. It is not always that you can head out in this heat. For the days when you wanna stay home yet enjoy your favorite mocktails, we got you some easy DIY recipes.
Coconut, cucumber lime and mint cooler
This has to be the most popular and easy to make mocktail, and the most refreshing one too.
- 4 cups of coconut water
- 1 cucumber- peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup lime juice
- 8-10 mint leaves
- Sugar (optional)
Method: Combine all ingredients together and shake in a shaker. Serve in tall glasses filled with ice cubes. Garnish with mint leaves and a few thin slices of cucumber.
DIY Ginger Ale
Ginger, with al it’s health benefits, is an excellent addition to summer drinks. It not only offers anti-oxidant benefits, it also adds an interesting twist to the drinks.
- 30ml mint juice (method follows)
- 15ml ginger juice
- 20ml lemon juice
- 15ml sugar syrup
- Sprite or 7Up
- Sprig of mint
Method: To make the mint juice, take mint leaves and ice and blend the two. Strain out the juice. To make ginger juice, use ginger and a little bit of water and blend it. Mix mint juice, ginger juice, lemon juice, and the sugar syrup in a tall glass. Top it up with Sprite or 7Up. Garnish with a spring of mint. Serve chilled.
Black Grapes mocktail
Black grapes lend a deep dark color to the drinks, making them totally irresistible. These are best prepared for evening parties!
- 4 cups black grape juice
- 3/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp Thyme
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 3 tsp black rock salt
- 1 1/2 tbsp tamarind pulp
- Crushed ice
- Black and green grapes for garnish
Method: Roast cumin seeds, thyme and fennel seeds in a pan. Take grape juice in a jug. Put the roasted masala, black rock salt, tamarind pulp and mix well. Add ice and put the mixture in a serving glass. Garnish it with black and green grapes and serve.
One of the most easily available and maximally hydrating fruit is the watermelon. You can of course have it as is, but making a cooler out of watermelon adds a little extra to the already wonderful fruit.
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped peeled fresh ginger
- 10 cup diced watermelon
- 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 4 cups chilled club soda
- Garnish: mint sprigs
Method: Combine sugar, water, and ginger in a small saucepan over high heat. Cook until sugar dissolves, stirring with a whisk. Remove from heat; cover and let stand 15 minutes. Strain; discard solids. Working in batches, place diced watermelon and fresh lime juice in a blender; process until smooth. Strain watermelon mixture through a fine sieve into a pitcher; discard solids. Stir in sugar syrup and chilled club soda. Serve over ice; garnish, if desired.
Mango lemon mocktail
How can any summer recipe post be complete without Mangoes.
- Mango pulp or a mango fruit drink like Frooti, Maaza
- 1 sprite/ lemon soda
- Water and sugar (if you are using fresh mango pulp)
- Mint leaves
Method: In a shaker, mix in the mango fruit drink and Sprite. Shake well. Serve in a tall glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish with mint leaves.
If you are using fresh mango pulp, first shake the pulp, sugar and water together. Then add Sprite. Serve.
