When it comes to food, it is obvious that we all have our preferences, and what’s surprising that our food preferences change with every passing hour in a day. But some things remain close to your heart forever. Red wine and some ravioli is my favorite kinda food to eat, good mood or bad, lunch or dinner, and so on. And when it comes to Italian food, I only trust the fine dining restaurants in the city to dish out something authentic and delicious to satiate my hunger pangs.
Recently, we went down to IT at The Grand New Delhi, an award winning Italian restaurant in one of the most luxurious five star hotels in Delhi. You are welcomed by the warm staff into their tastefully done Italian restaurant with a very minimalistic yet grand decor. You feel transported to Italy the moment you step in. Oh, and one of the main entry attractions is their huge wine and cigar collection, with lots of exclusive ones in there, proudly on display.
You are welcomed with Amuse Bouche– a slice of melon topped with cheese and balsamic caviar. This serves as a palate cleanser for the meal ahead.
A delicate salad- Duo Insalata– followed next. Lettuce salad with green apple, cherry tomatoes etc, and a slice of buffalo cheese on the side. A very good way to start your meal!
Next came the Crema di asparagi e gamberi– cream of asparagus soup which was a very delicately flavored, wholesome soup. The non-vegetarian one that I had came with prawns in it too! While it was a good one to have, this is a bit on the weaker side in terms of flavor.
A round of thin-crust pizzas came in next. The pizzas at IT are made in a wood-fired oven, and every component of the pizza is made in-house. The smoky flavor from the oven, and the fresh toppings and sauce were a real delight to have. With just the right amount of cheese, these definitely left us craving for more. And you can also order a fully customised pizza for yourself at IT, with your choice of toppings, apart from the existing menu on offer, which I think is a great option for pizza lovers!
While we were enjoying the various courses of our meal, we were also served different wines to go with each course, paired carefully with the food on offer. IT boasts of an exclusive collection of premium wines, and it was a delight to sample some of them.
For main course, we had Chef’s special chicken– chicken stuffed with mushrooms and cheese, served with red wine jus, this was one of my favorites of the lot. Formaggio polenta– cheese stuffed polenta served with a side of spinach and mushrooms was a good one, with perfect seasoning and flavor. And my favorite bit- Ravioli con salsa rosso– ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese was an absolute delight. The melt-in-the-mouth ravioli with crunchy pine nuts made for my favorite dish of the lot.
The meal ended with a sweet note, with a classic Tiramisu, one of the best I’ve had, and some cheesecake. 😉
Overall, I loved the whole dining experience at IT. Would recommend it to anyone looking to have some fine Italian food while sipping on wine!
