After 22 years in business, the iconic Italian fine dining restaurant of Delhi- La Piazza at Hyatt Regency, Delhi has come up with an all new menu curated by the Italian master chefs Ivan Chieregatti and Alessandro Sandrolini to give a fresh new feel to the classic Italian food served at La Piazza. Read on for our take on the new menu which has been radically changed from the earlier one!
Though I liked all of them, my personal favorite was the watermelon and feta cheese salad. Loved how everything just melted in the mouth, and the watermelon is so refreshing for this time of the year! The huge chunks of feta added just the right amount of saltiness and texture variation.
For soup, we tried the Zuppetta di funghi, crostini, olio al (mushroom soup) and loved every bit of it. A bit of freshly cracked pepper just adds to the flavors of the soup!
There are times when I crave only for a good risotto. A complete meal in itself, if nicely made, a risotto can quickly elevate your mood! Risotto con pomodoro fresco, burrata e basilico (Tomato, burrata and basil risotto) has to be the best risotto I’ve had till date, hands down! The creamy risotto with a dollop of fresh burrata was a delight for the senses!
No Italian meal is complete without a good, hearty pasta. From the new menu, we sampled Penne alla siciliana (Penne pasta with fried eggplant, spicy tomato sauce and dry ricotta cheese), Tortelloni ripieni di ricotta e tartufo nero serviti con crema di patate (Homemade truffle and ricotta tortelloni, potato and parmesan cream sauce), Fusilli al ragu di anatra con pecorino (Fusilli with duck ragout, pecorino cheese) and Cannelloni gratinati, ripieni di pollo (Baked chicken cannelloni).
It is hard to pick a favorite in the pasta department at La Piazza, but I totally loved the ricotta tortelloni and the baked chicken cannelloni. Both these dishes were to die for!
Trancio di salmone alla griglia, peperonata con patate, olio al basilico (Grilled salmon fillet, stew capsicum and potatoes, basil oil), Tagliata di filetto alla griglia al pepe verde e rosmarino con rucola (Grilled and sliced tenderloin, green pepper and rosemary, rocket leaves), Verdure e scamorza alla griglia, erbe, salsa all’aglio (Grilled vegetables and scamorza cheese, herbs, garlic veloute’), Tortino di semolina e zafferano alla piastra (Saffron semolina cake, crispy vegetables, smoked cheese sauce) were on our testing table. We loved the main course, and how!
Right from the perfectly cooked salmon to the crunchy grilled vegetables, we loved the flavors. The semolina cakes were quite a nice surprise too. Loved every mouthful!
When at La Piazza, prepare to indulge in some amazing desserts at the end of every meal. Souffle’ di cioccolato con gelato alla banana e salsa al caramello (Chocolate fondant with banana ice cream and caramel sauce), Panna cotta ai frutti di bosco (Panna cotta with wild berries), Bonet astigiano, vanilla al bourbon, briciole di amaretti (Bonet, bourbon vanilla dip, crashed amaretti), Mousse al cioccolato al latte e nero, meringa italiana, salsa al cioccolato e peperoncino, frutti di bosco (White and dark chocolate mousse, italian merengue, spicy chocolate sauce, wild berries). You can take yoour pick between a rich chocolate heaven and a fresh fruity burst. We enjoyed both, needless to say!
We have always enjoyed our meals at La Piazza, and this new menu is fantastic too. The flavors are always bang on and the textures always right. The new menu also has a lot more vegetarian options from the previous one. The food coupled with their extensive wine collection and amazing hospitality makes for a delight!
If you fancy an authentic Italian meal in a fine dining setting, La Piazza is the place to be in! The place is perfect to go to for a romantic dinner, a family get-together or to catch up with friends!
