A few weeks back, I, along with a bunch of other food bloggers from Delhi, was invited for an exclusive pre-launch food event at Open House, CP (Connaught Place, Delhi). The restaurant has since opened for public, and even though delayed, here’s my review on this new restaurant by Priyank Sukhija- Delhi’s biggest restaurateur.
PS: This below is the view from one side of the restaurant. I am anyways always in awe of this huge Indian National Flag in Central Park, CP. Just looking at it fills my hear with oodles of pride and joy, and having it right at eye level while I was having my food was an amazing experience!
The interiors are very rustic and comforting, with lots of natural light coming in during the day. Dull greys contrasted with rich reds make for a very cool setting!
I mostly start ‘reviews’ with the most ‘different’ drink on the menu. I tried the Spicy Strawberry Slush, assuming it would be like ‘any other strawberry drink with a hint of spice’, but I was taken in for a huge surprise by the potent green chili flavor, which left a noticeable tingling on the lips and the palate, and also had a definite ‘heat’ to the drink. The heat was well balanced with the strawberry flavor, but was standing out nonetheless. Really enjoyed the drink!! The other drinks on offer like the Watermelon and Basil Cooler, Virgin Mojito, etc. faded in comparison to the Spicy Strawberry slush.
Alcohol wasn’t being served that day (we went there before the launch), so I cannot comment on the cocktails.
Next we were presented with an array of dimsums and other starters. A great mix of veg and non-veg dimsums like Chicken Prawn Sui Mai, Pork & Prawn Sui Mai, Seabass dumpling, Vegetable poached pecking dumpling, etc. Most of these were good, but the Seabass dumpling won my heart over!
For salad, we had the Prawn Salad with Mango on offer which was quite a refreshing change, with mango juices, though we were expecting it to have ‘mango pulp’ in it.
And while the starters were all very good, it is the main course that took my heart away! Who would have thought that Stir Fry French Beans would be a big hit with everyone! A very simple recipe, but very well made! The Pan Fried Steamed Fish with Asam Sauce– a very flavorful sauce, but not something that would over power the delicate flavor of the fish that it enveloped- I loved this one! Best had with plain rice. The Special prawn curry with curry leaf was another favorite of mine!
For desserts, we were offered four options- Chocolate Blossom, Lemon Cheese Tart, Triple Chocolate Brownie and Red Velvet Cake. I loved the quirky presentation of desserts at Open House. Chocolate Blossom was my favorite of the lot, with an orange flavored core!
Overall, I quite loved the food at Open House. If you love dimsums and Cantonese food, I think you must try out Open House sometime soon! Highly recommended!
