PizzaExpress Summer Special menu: Review

Hey everyone!

A few days back, we had the chance to sample the new summer menu at PizzaExpress– a UK based Italian pizza chain since 1965, with restaurants in Delhi and Mumbai (in India). Take a look! 🙂

The first thing that I immediately loved about PizzaExpress is the fact that it is a casual dining restaurant wherein you can sit and enjoy the food along with their hospitality (and not just order over phone or over a counter 😛 ). You can easily relax here with your food and drinks, and be comfortable- something I really look forward to when I go out to eat!

Each of their outlets’ decor has been done up keeping the local history in mind. The Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, Delhi outlet boasts of a huge wall with pottery plates, depicting their chefs in the pizza making process. The local Vasant Kunj area was once a pottery hub!

They also feature live kitchens at their outlets, where guests can see their food being made right in front of them.

We started off with sampling some of the new mocktails on the menu. Tropical– made with fresh watermelon is a classic summer drink! Ginger Fresco with bursts of ginger and mint was my personal favorite of the three. Mango Berry Smoothie was refreshing too- mangoes are always welcome in summers!

Next up was the intro platter which consisted of a bunch of tangy peppadews (sweet piquanté peppers) stuffed with cheese and mushrooms- a very unique accompaniment for your drinks int he evenings! The platter also had some salted cashews, smoked almonds and barbecued beans. All in all, a very fresh take on drink accompaniments!

And all this while, we couldn’t wait to try the new pizzas. We tried the Pollo Coriander Pesto pizza (chicken)- and I must say that I loved the pesto which I normally do not fancy much. This has got to be my best experience with pesto so far! The pizzas are thin and crisp to the right extent! For vegetarians, we tried the Margherita Bufalo pizza which was again a hit with us! Those chunks of delish bufalo cheese with the tangy tomato sauce and the light, crisp pizza base- yumm!

From the pasta section, we loved the Spaghetti Anglio e Olio– a no-fuss pasta with garlic and chili flakes, and parsley tossed with spaghetti and olive oil. It was definitely on the ‘hot’ side of things for us, with the garlic taking mainstage. And this simple recipe served as a reminder that pasta needn’t be loaded with sauces and veggies/ meats to taste good!

The dessert platter from the summer menu comes with portions of tiramisu, chocolate fudge cake and cheesecake. The platter is a nice finishing touch to the whole meal. Best shared with your loved one! 😉

And while we were at it, we also checked out the regular menu.

These Dough Balls are said to be one of their best selling dishes- soft little balls of dough with an almost-hollow centre, served with pesto sauce, garlic butter and pesto rosso (pesto with sundried tomatoes)- each of them bringing a unique flavor to the dough puffs! Must try!

The regular menu also consists of some classic pizzas like Pollo Forza– grilled chicken with lots of smoked chilis, peppers, jalapenos and chili oil. Pomodoro Pesto with cherry tomatoes and onions, fresh pesto and cheese made for a very satiating pizza too! The more pizzas we tried, the more we wanted to have!

And that’s the regular portion of their classic cheesecake, served with vanilla ice cream.

All in all, PizzaExpress is one of my favorite restaurants for pizzas from now on! The pizzas are not too heavy on the tummy, and you don’t leave feeling bloated! And not only the pizzas, the rest of their food and drinks were really good too. That, coupled with the right ambience and hospitality is what makes them stand apart from other pizza outlets.

Must try!

Where: Delhi (Ambience Mall- Vasant Kunj), NCR (Ambience Mall- Gurgaon), Mumbai (Powai, Andheri East, Andheri West, Colaba, Viviana Mall, Thane, Bandra Kurla Complex)

PS: PizzaExpress does not do half-half pizzas, as depicted here. These were made for review purpose. Also, the portion size of the dough buns shown is half that of regular portion. We often ask for smaller portions when we go for reviews, so that we can get you more variety here, without wasting any food!
