I’m back with a food review today (and a few more in the days to come!). Some time back, we went down to QLA at the swanky and stylish Seven Style Mile at Mehrauli, Delhi. An avant-garde European fine dining restaurant, QLA sure has a lot of delightful dishes up their sleeve. Read on for the full review!
The restaurant has an open courtyard seating area as well as indoor seating, with cafe style chairs and warm wooden decor, and a large wooden bar. You can also see the open kitchen. They welcome you with a kafir lime & orange shot which instantly leaves you craving for more.
The Amuse Bouche at QLA is probably the most elaborate amuse bouche I’ve ever tried, with 4 components to it, served on an interesting tiered platter, with various flavors such as rose, tamarind, lemongrass playing volley on your palate along with the crunchy cheese balls.
While you have placed your order and are waiting for it, you can try their freshly baked focaccia and brioche breads, served with home made ricotta dip and fresh butter topped with a special Japanese spice. Everything here just melts in the mouth!
Next up were some interesting dishes that were as appealing for the eyes as for the palate. The Chicken liver weds Port Wine, a chicken liver preparation that surprisingly did not have the funky flavor of livers, served with chicken croquettes, was a good start to the meal. Soft Cucumber Tacos filled with tuna/ beans were quite a surprise in that the shell of the taco were cucumber slices themselves, rendering the tacos a unique translucency and distinct freshness from the cucumber. Sake & lemongrass marinade long eggplant in polenta was quite a flavorsome dish for the veggies! The clear Pho Broth soup came in parts, with an assortment of veggies and a dimsum, and the soup- mixed together, you get a wholesome soup!
Before the next round, we also sampled some Earl Grey flavored white wine along with the Stilton meets Waldorf salad. This combination took our dining experience to a whole new level, teasing the taste buds like no other!
Next up were some main course dishes. Double cooked chicken with one part chicken confit and one part sou vide chicken served on garlic wine cream, and mushroom risotto on the side made for a complete meal in itself. The various textures and flavors in the dish were very interesting. I’ll probably go back for this one soon! The Summer Organic Vegetable Plate got a delish sweetness from the sweet potato puree.
We also tried some wood fired pizzas which are freshly made in the pizzeria in the courtyard. These were really good too, and you can choose your favorite toppings.
With your entire meal, you can also enjoy some side dishes like parmesan fries, onion rings, sauteed vegetables, etc., all of which are really good!
Last but not the least- the Chef’s special dessert platter was everyone’s favorite! Small portions of Valencia cheesecake topped with raspberry mousse, blueberry compote etc., double chocolate flourless cake, and the very robust lager beer sorbet– what an end to a delicious meal. The lager beer sorbet isn’t for the faint hearted, though. 😛
They are soon starting terrace dining, as winters come down upon us. Overlooking the lit up Qutub Minar at night, it will be a sight to behold for romantic dinners!
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at QLA and would highly recommend it to you if you are looking at pampering your taste buds to some really delicious European, Italian and Spanish food over some great drinks, and a sight to behold at night! Must visit for a romantic dinner date! QLA is an experience that needs to be savored slowly, like a good old wine!
