It leaves you speechless. Then turns you into a storyteller!
We recently went down to Ramgarh Heritage at Panchkula, a 30-minute drive from Chandigarh, a quaint 325 year old heritage family haveli converted into a heritage resort recently. The resort stands tall and proud with all the history that has happened in it’s complex and vicinity. Read on for more!
After about 325 years or roughly 8 generations later, the Royal Family of Ramgarh has converted their family home into a hotel, and it is now open for everyone who wants to experience royalty with modern amenities. Even after extensive refurbishing, the property retains it’s old-world, pre-Independence charm. The entrance area is dotted with vintage souvenirs and hand-written letters from the British era and even earlier, and you can spend hours in this area exploring the little details.
Most decor items in the property come from their own possessions, and have now been converted into something more modern.
Every corner is dotted with history, like this one huge plant pot which is actually a cooking vessel from the family kitchen from the years gone by! You definitely do not see such vessels being made today! There’s also a 300+ year old tree inside the property!!
You can spend hours reading vintage books and exploring artifacts in the common seating area, and be amused at how they have used heirloom dupattas as picture frames and a vintage wooden door as a center-table! Hundreds of other items are on display at all times, each with it’s own story.
Below you can see some items which were used in family wedding ceremonies at some point, and stood the test of time to become precious today!
Restored royal outfits dot the entire inner areas of the haveli.
The restaurant and bar area are also dotted with history all over. From heavy family utensils (lift them at your own risk, they are quite heavy!) to the Shikar bar laced with vintage gun shells on the walls to bar seats made out of horse-backs perched atop missile shells, you’ll be amazed at how they have creatively used all these items to transport you to a different era!
In the evenings, the view of the property from the gardens is breathtaking too! The dim yellow lighting against the dark blue sky is a sight to behold!
The hotel offers 26 luxurious rooms with 2 distinctly done suites with all modern amenities, events spaces for weddings and other functions too.
The all day dining restaurant, Diwan-Khana, is a sight to behold in the evenings too. The outdoor area allows you to have your meal under a starry night sky, being an epitome of romance!
The food here too will leave you spellbound. Authentic recipes and a variety of cuisines make sure everyone goes back happy. We highly recommend that you try out the kulhad-chicken. The earthy flavors from the kulhad (terracotta cup) still make us drool just at the mention of the recipe.
If you are travelling down to Panchkula, or looking for an authentic heritage experience, Ramgarh Heritage is where you should go next!! We loved every bit of our stay at the property, and will definitely go back again!
